Step 1: cleaning baby mouths
(0-16 months)
What’s happening?
Even though they are not visible your baby’s baby teeth are present just under the gums and their adult teeth are also developing. The new baby teeth will usually start to erupt between 6 months to one year and this is called ‘teething’.
What do I need to do?
Cleaning your baby’s mouth helps reduce the build-up of the bacteria that cause tooth decay and prepares a healthy environment for new baby teeth to erupt into. It also helps to get your baby used to having its mouth (and teeth) cleaned from a very early age.
- To clean your baby’s mouth, wipe gently over gums, tongue and cheeks twice a day
- Use DentalWipes™ with xylitol and introduce tooth brushing as your baby gets teeth
What can I use?
Brush-Baby DentalWipes™ (finger sleeve type)
are soft, disposable wipes coated with a cleansing solution that contains xylitol.
- Xylitol reduces the number of decay-causing bacteria.
- Fluoride free.
- Use to clean the mouth and gums.
- Use to clean first baby teeth or when unable to brush teeth.
